Oklahoma LLC Registered Agent Requirements
Every Oklahoma LLC must continuously maintain a registered agent and a registered office in the state. The rule is 18 O.S. § 2010, it attaches the moment your Articles of Organization are filed, and it never sunsets. Oklahoma's version of the rule has one unusual feature and one demanding one, and both deserve a plain explanation before you decide who holds the job.
Who Can Hold the Role
Section 2010 permits the registered agent to be:
- the LLC itself, serving as its own agent
- an individual resident of Oklahoma
- a domestic corporation, LLC, or limited partnership, or a qualified foreign one
That first option is the unusual feature. Oklahoma states outright that a domestic LLC may be its own registered agent, which plenty of states never allow. So if anyone tells you a third-party agent is legally mandatory in Oklahoma, they are wrong, and we would rather tell you the truth and earn the business on the merits.
The Demanding Part: The Open-Office Duty
Here is the catch that makes self-serving harder than it sounds. The agent must maintain a business office that is identical with the registered office, open during regular business hours to accept service of process. The registered office must be a street address; PO boxes are not acceptable. In practice that means someone must reliably be at that address through the business day, every business day, because process servers do not schedule appointments. A solo owner who is out meeting customers, on a job site, or on vacation is an agent whose office is closed, and service that cannot be delivered has a way of becoming a judgment you learn about late.
That open-office duty, not any legal prohibition, is the honest reason most Oklahoma owners who start as their own agent eventually stop. The role also puts the agent's street address on the public record, which for a home-based LLC means publishing where you live.

Agent and office changes are filed on SOS Form 0075, "Change or Designation of Registered Agent and/or Registered Office and/or Principal Office", with a $25 fee, on paper or through the Secretary of State's online filing system.
